Trim GIF: what this tool does

Cut the beginning or end from a GIF without turning it into a video. Enter a start and end time in seconds and preview the selected interval. Frames that only partly overlap the range are retained with a shorter delay, so the cut follows the requested time as closely as GIF timing permits.

How to use Trim GIF

  1. Open an animated GIF and inspect its full duration.
  2. Set a start and end time, then use the preview controls to check the chosen moment.
  3. Export the trimmed GIF and inspect its actual duration and size.

Quality, timing and file size

GIF timing is stored in hundredths of a second, and very short delays can be handled differently by players. The tool rounds output delays to that precision and applies a practical minimum delay. The animation is re-encoded after trimming, so bytes and palette details can differ from the source.

Processing happens in a browser worker, and your files are not uploaded. Start with a short animation on mobile. The tool checks file size, frame count and decoded pixels before editing; large or damaged files receive an error with a way to retry. You can cancel a running export and keep your source selection. The preview is an editing aid; download and inspect the result in its final destination because players can handle very short frame delays differently.

Frequently asked questions

Can I enter fractional seconds?

Yes. Start and end accept decimal seconds. Boundary frames have their delays shortened to fit the chosen interval.

Will trimming change the speed?

Not unless you select a different playback speed. The retained frames keep their original display delays, apart from boundary cuts and GIF timing precision.

Can I remove a section from the middle?

This version keeps one continuous interval. It does not splice together two separate sections around a removed middle segment.

Can I use this on my phone?

Yes, in a current browser with local canvas and worker support. Mobile budgets are lower to protect memory. Choose shorter, smaller animations, and use a desktop for a larger sequence.

Does this tool upload my files?

No. Image decoding and export run on your device. This website uses analytics for page visits and tool events, but filenames, source pixels and generated frames are not sent as analytics events.
